A Weekend in Philly

Love in Philly

All the Snapshots

Happy (late) Monday! This past weekend, Nick and I went to Philadelphia for his friend’s wedding. It was a lot of (too much?) fun, and we are still recovering.

Here you have the coconut rice/fried egg creation from our last Blue Apron meal. We brought two containers with us to the airport, which was probably one of the our smarter decisions on this trip. As walked passed “fast food row” in Denver International Airport, I realized I was about to murder someone I was so hungry. I ate my coconut rice waiting in the security line and successfully avoided a life sentence and also eating greasy, nutrient-less food. Double win.

We got to Philly around 1 or 2 in the morning, and we Ubered to Nick’s mom’s house in Swathmore. Here’s a quick snapshot of (just a small fraction of) the garden on the property. It’s so beautiful.

Nick’s mom let me take this gem of a photo. Here we have what I might call: “I thought we were going to play football?”

After spending Friday morning with Nick’s mom, we went on over to Media to spend some time with his dad and crew. My favorite family member? This giant pup, Ranger. Sorry, guys. He’s 100+ pounds of pure love (and hair).

Eventually we headed to theΒ Philadelphia Hilton City Avenue, feeling groggy from a late night and extra eating with family. While resting in our room, we ended up watching Emma Coburn win the World Steeplechase title… she wasn’t in the lead, but kicked it into gear during the final water jump. It was so inspiring that I instantly got energy and felt like going to the gym! We did some intervals and speed work at the hotel fitness center, followed by weights. I was seriously “roiding” on Emma’s high. It was so cool to watch.

The rehearsal dinner was that night, and even though Nick wasn’t in the wedding, we were invited, which was fun! They served delicious Indian food, and then the whole gang went out afterward. This is when we confirmed that we are old and cannot hang with the young (or the young at heart). We are old, old, old at heart.

Thankfully, we were feeling relatively good Saturday morning, and decided to head into Philadelphia to visit Spread Bagelry. I was, once again, hangry (it’s a real problem), since I’m used to eating within 30-60 minutes upon waking, but the wait was indeed worth it.

We split these two lovely bagels, which warmed my heart, along with the coffee.

With happy bellies, we embarked on a walking tour of West Philadelphia. Nick wanted to show me the Penn campus, where his dad worked as a professor, where his mom worked on campus, and where his sister went to law school.

We had to stop and look at the gorgeous produce at the farmer’s market, first.

We also enjoyed all the lovely row houses and architecture.

The Penn campus is out of this world. I want to go to there.

This Gothic-green building is where Nick’s dad’s office was, on the third floor.

When you see the fine arts hall, you pose in front of it, of course.

We just had to stop by the Penn Bookstore before heading back to the hotel. I finally got myself a hardcover copy of 1984. I can’t wait to read it again!

We had so much fun at the wedding Saturday night. All of Nick’s childhood friends are fun, kind, and incredibly welcoming. What a good bunch, right there!

(Nick’s classic move.)

I think you can tell we had a great time. We danced and drank and then drank some more. We went to bed at 2 am and got up at 7 for our flight home. Oof! But we were excited to pick up our Harper! (You can watch a short video of us picking her up from City Bark, here. It’s so cute!) She was happy to see us and come home.

Sunday afternoon, I caught Harps “supervising” her dad… although she was sleeping on the job. I remembered the above photo I took of her on the first day we got her. Look at the size comparison! She was a little piglet!

And then this morning, I decided I needed a little extra sleep after breakfast. Harps joined in on the fun. πŸ™‚

How was your weekend?
