My 4th Stitch Fix: A Different Approach

WILLING TO SPEND MORE

…kind of. Last time around, I changed my Style Profile to more expensive items, because I wanted to focus on business event attire and looking more professional. My stylist Leah knocked it out of the park!

However, I also had to realize that, in general, I need to get more aggressive in my saving strategy for a new apartment coming up in July.

Here’s how I compromised…

First, let’s see what I got!

ITEM 1:

Violeta Scallop Detail Blouse, $44

I pinned this exact blouse on my Pinterest board, and it looked SO cute on me! The only caveat was that it fit a little too tight around my shoulders, arms, and bust. I would’ve been fussing with it every time I wore it, which just doesn’t justify $44. Darn it!

ITEM 2:

Dayna Skinny Jean, $88

I updated my Style Profile with an even smaller pant size (kind of the best feeling ever), and I’m still blown away that they fit. Wrapping my head around the fact that I am no longer a size 10 is harder said than done.

While I was excited they fit, they bunched a lot around my knees and ankles, which means they were a tad too long. I realized I could find something similar elsewhere. (Adulating for the win.)

ITEM 3:

Fiorna Split Neck Top, $54

I think you can see it in my face: I’m just not impressed. I like easy, flowy tops like this, but I just could not hop on board this train.

ITEM 4:

Zara Romper, $68

I was so, so tempted to keep this romper. First, I’ve never even entertained the thought of a romper. Second, I most certainly did not request one. But this is why Stitch Fix is so exciting: Your stylist introduces you to ideas that you’d never think to try on in a store. And I was pleasantly surprised! And also confused.

But in the end, this is not me. I’m not Team Romper. Sorry, guys.

ITEM 5:

Merell Ponte Dress, $98

I requested dresses that could be dressed up or down, and Leah nailed it with this Merell Ponte Dress for $98. And it has pockets, so.

With the styling fee subtracted, this dress was $80. I almost sent every item back, but changed my mind with this navy staple because it’s just so versatile and sturdy. Did I mention it has pockets?

THE VERDICT

(For now) I firmly believe that updating your Style Profile to more expensive options will result in more unique and better-made pieces. This dress will last me years, and I will be able to accessorize it a million different ways. The material is thick and durable. The cut is perfect, and if I add a cardigan or even a denim jacket, it will look like a completely different dress.

I also believe the skinny jeans, romper, and black scalloped blouse are all up there on the high end. I would’ve kept them if I had the money to spare!

FLIP-FLOPPING

I recently wanted to commit to higher-quality and more expensive pieces for my wardrobe. That’s why I changed my Stitch Fix Style Profile. And honestly, I still want to take that approach, but what makes me even more excited is focusing on my budget right now.

I’m moving to a new apartment at the end of July, and I want to set myself up for success. Besides this one dress splurge, I will be cutting back on new clothing purchases, unless I find some great thrifty deals. And if I do, I’ll be letting you in on the secrets!
